Gerard Butler's goofy red carpet antics can't steal the spotlight from stunning co-star Michelle Monaghan in Toronto

There's no doubt about it: Gerard Butler is a ham.

The Scottish actor mugged his way down the red carpet during the Toronto Film Festival premiere of his new movie, Machine Gun Preacher.

He posed with fans, made faces at photographers and saluted the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall like a sailor.

Simply stunning: Nothing could detract from Michelle Monaghan's beauty -- not even her goofy co-star

Unfortunately for Gerry, his antics couldn't detract any attention away from his glowing and gorgeous co-star, Michelle Monaghan.
While the 41-year-old actor made faces and posed with fans, the actress simply smiled shyly and stole the show.
She looked stunning in a white sheath dress and Brian Atwood's burgundy suede Power Studs pumps.

Copy-cats: The Scotsman has the crowd aping his every move

A little help? The actor's antics appeared to tire him out

Her footwear also happened to match her hair; its red cast was a change from her typically brunette locks.
The 35-year-old actress certainly doesn't seem like she'd be starring in an action picture, though she frequently crops up in fast-paced films like Source Code and Mission Impossible III.
Gerry, too, usually finds himself in the midst of action fare like 300 and RocknRolla.

Look at me! The star lapped up the attention

Looking good: Michelle Monaghan and Gerard Butler are one good-looking pair

Eye-catching: The crowd is watching Michelle's every move as well, but for a very different reason

His latest film, Machine Gun Preacher, is the story of a former criminal turned crusader Sam Childers, who founded an orphanage in Africa.
The picture is directed by Marc Foster and also stars Michael Shannon, Madeline Carroll and Kathy Baker.
It is scheduled for a limited US release on September 23.

Gerard Butler dismisses his bodyguard from his hotel interview room at the Intercontinental on Front. The bodyguard is there because he and his colleagues on the film Machine Gun Preacher have received death threats :freddo.gif: . (Directed by Marc Forster, it’s based on the true story of Sam Childers, an American biker and former drug dealer turned preacher who routinely risks his life to rescue kidnapped child soldiers in the Sudan.) The bodyguard gives Butler – who looks plenty meaty enough to take care of himself – an “Are you sure?” look. Butler nods slowly and the guard exits. Butler rolls his eyes. “Last night, when we came out of the airport, we were attacked by this crowd of paparazzi, crowding in, yelling, flashbulbs popping,” he says, in a Scottish accent thick enough to stuff a haggis. “We had all our bags slung over us, we couldn’t move, and he [the bodyguard] was just sort of standing there. Hello, I really could have used you then. Now, here in the room with one journalist, he’s all ready to go”.
