Gerard Butler to Star in Dean Devlin's 'Geostorm' (Exclusive)

Warner Bros. just picked up the Skydance-produced project from Paramount.

Gerard Butler is attached to star in Geostorm, a sci-fi adventure feature written and to be directed by Dean Devlin.

Warner Bros. has picked up the project, which was being initially developed independently by David Ellison’s Skydance Productions. Skydance remains involved and is producing with Devlin’s Electric Entertainment.

The story sees Butler playing a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold.
The material is in Devlin's wheelhouse. He co-wrote such destruction-laden pics as Independence Day and Godzilla. Geostorm would be Devlin's feature debut. Devlin previously helmed episodes of TV's Leverage.
Ellison is producing with Skydance’s Dana Goldberg along with Electric’s Marc Roskin along with Rachel Olschan. Paul Schwake will exec produce.
Jon Berg is overseeing for the studio.
Butler is shooting Gods of Egypt for Summit and is due to star in Alcon’s remake of Point Break, which will film this spring and summer. Geostorm would begin production this fall.
He is repped by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment.

Gerard Butler begins filming ‘Geostorm’ in New Orleans today

Gerard Butler is back in Louisiana today to begin filming Geostorm, about “a man who goes into space to prevent climate-controlling satellites from creating a storm of epic proportions as his brother discovers a plot to assassinate the president.”

Today, the movie is filming off of Loyola Ave in New Orleans.


This is the third movie Gerard has shot in Louisiana recently. Playing for Keeps was filmed in Shreveport in 2011 and Olympus Has Fallen was filmed in and around New Orleans the following year.

The WB movie is expected to shoot through February 10, 2015 in New Orleans.

Amr Waked was last seen as a French cop wondering what the hell he’d gotten himself into during the madness of Lucy, and he’s not exactly putting his feet on the ground for a new assignment. The Egyptian actor has joined the cast of Gerard Butler sci-fi actin thriller Geostorm.

Dean Devlin is making his film-directing debut on the movie, in which Butler plays a charming but stubborn satellite designer called in to help when the orbiting devices that control the Earth’s weather start to go haywire, leading to fears that the worst storm humanity has ever known could soon befall us all.

Jim Sturgess will be Butler’s estranged brother, with whom he’ll have to work if he’s to stop the meteorological apocalypse. And Waked? According to Variety, he’s set to play tough international space-station security expert Ray Dussette, who will likely be an important ally for Butler. Or a thorn in his side, depending on where the screenplay takes him.

Ed Harris, Abbie Cornish, Andy Garcia, Robert Sheehan and Katheryn Winnick are all aboard the film, which is shooting now in New Orleans. The film is set to rain on our cumulative cinematic parade on March 25, 2016.

Amr Waked Steps into Geostorm

Egyptian Amr Waked has been cast in the forthcoming sci-fi action thriller Geostorm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Waked will play the head of security on the international space station.

Geostorm’s plot centres around catastrophic climate change that threatens to destroy life on Earth as climate control satellites look set to cause a massive storm.

Waked is a big star in Egypt and was seen in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and more recently in Luc Besson’s Lucy.

Geostorm stars Gerard Butler, Katheryn Winnick, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia.

The movie is currently filming in New Orleans with Dean Devlin (who was a producer on Independeance Day) making his directorial debut.

Expect a late 2016 release.



Premettendo che non ho mai visto questo attore prima d'ora e non sto dicendo che non sia bravo.....però, certo che come somiglianza c'hanno azzeccato eh?

Hahahaha ma no, dicevo che essendo che son fratelli, almeno potevano trovare due tizi con le stesse caratteristiche fisiche o facciali dai XD

Poi è vero che il trucco fa miracoli, però io penso che siano più credibili fratelli o sorelle che si assomigliano almeno un po'..so che anche nella vita reale ci son parenti che non si somigliano, ma è abbastanza raro, c'è sempre qualcosa che fa capire che sei di famiglia

Vero, Abbie, Ed ed Andy non han bisogno di presentazioni.

Io personalmente ho visto molti disaster movies (con amici fantatici) , ma li trovo tutti molto stupidi quindi non credo che lo andrò a vedere, però chissà, magari con questo cast viene fuori un bel film lo stesso
